Colour Theory Lecture
In this lecture we recapped the structure of colour and analysed some painting. I learnt about various colour wheels and saw them applied to concept paintings. Altogether we analysed colour harmony within some paintings, and have been set to apply this on our own with selected paintings.
Ahindhil, The Forest’s Guardians - Marie Magny
This painting uses Analogous colour harmony, which is 3 simultaneous hues on the wheel. Contrast using this harmony is created through value. The dominant colour is one of the blues in this painting, with the other blue and the green complimenting. The slightly more saturated areas with a light value stand out, highlighting the wings. Saturation is reasonably low through the painting and colour temperature is very soft throughout
Scout - James Zapata
This painting uses one colour, using the saturation and values to created the depth. The light values are just of center and on the higher part of the painting. Darkness disperses around that, giving a dark atmosphere in the foreground. Having the lighter sky, makes the character and bird stand out due to the contrast in values.
GUN - Jakub Rebelka
This painting uses a complimentary colour wheel. In this painting most of the lighter areas are orange based, with the shadows having aspects of blue in them and the background being a saturated blue. This painting is pretty saturated, and doesn't vary a enormous amount of values.
